UPDATE 1:47 p.m.: The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Driver License System (LEADS) is currently functioning for both in-person and online services.

Alabama residents might have to wait a while to get a driver license if they plan to pick one up in person.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Driver License Division is currently experiencing a statewide network outage, which means examiners are unable to process any in-person license transactions.

ALEA sent the notice around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning and were uncertain when the network would be restored.

Online services, however, are still available. To renew, duplicate or reprint a driver license, visit ALEA’s driver license online services here.

“This outage is the result of a fiber-optic cable that was damaged and is not related to the new LEADS system which was launched in April,” ALEA tweeted.

“The cable is in the process of being repaired, however, a time frame in which the repair will be completed is still unknown.”
