The Missoula County Attorney's Office charged 17 new felony complaints this week, an increase of 5 from last week. County Attorney Kirsten Pabst said there were four cases this week involving assault on a partner or family member.

"In one case, the defendant was charged with criminal harm and PFMA was suspected of assaulting his mother and brother while drunk, the first and second crimes," Pabst said. "In another game, the Missoula Police Department was passing by the Johnson Street Shelter and saw the victim getting off the car in the parking lot. The victim was crying and she was the defendant's girlfriend. It was reported that her forehead was on her forehead. There are red marks and bruises on the lips."

According to Pabst, the defendant in the case was charged with multiple assaults.

"In another case, the defendant allegedly assaulted his fiancé in a Frenchie's parking lot. A bystander discovered this and he called law enforcement," Pabst said. "We thank those bystanders who are willing to stand up and say something. We prosecuted a sexual assault case involving a minor. The defendant was allegedly a distant relative of the child."

Pabst said her office also accused a person of negligence causing harm.

"In that case, an unstable driver allegedly dragged a blind spot behind a barbed wire fence," Pabst said. "It is said that he has repeatedly asked the driver on the road to let the avoiding operator miss the opportunity to approach the collision. One of them was to drag two horses that were thrown on the ground by the trailer. Fortunately, none of them were injured."

The other two cases involved stolen all-terrain vehicles. In another incident, a 911 caller reported a shooting in a trailer park.

"The investigation concluded that the defendant shot into the air, allegedly to stop her fiance and his brother from fighting outside the trailer," Pabst said. "However, the shooting cut the fiber optic cable, causing the Internet and mobile phones to be disrupted, and the repair cost is estimated to be close to $10,000."

In the end, Pabst said they charged five new drug cases. Local law enforcement has captured individuals who possessed methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine and fentanyl.
